Nick Shiambouros' Patented 80/20 Bet: Folkestone, 14:45

80/20 RSS / / 29 February 2012 / Leave a Comment

We're at Folkestone today for our daily 80/20 selection but who is Nick showing faith in?

Today's 80/20 is Mabel Tasman in the 14.45 at Folkestone.

This mare was pulled up in a race won by Native Gallery at Aintree last December. She never appeared happy in the testing conditions and was struggling some way from home. But she had previously finished a decent second to Rolling Aces at Wincanton in November, which reads well in the context of this race. I think she will run well at a fair price today. At present she is trading at [5.1] on the exchange.

We're at Catterick today for Nick's 80/20 bet but who is he backing for success?...

Nick explains why he expects today's 80/20 to get the week off to a winning start......

Will Nick's selection put on a good 'show' this afternoon?...

Nick Shiambouros' Patented 80/20 Bet: Folkestone, 14:50

Nick can't Promise that this selection will go one better than second place last time out but he is hoping for a strong run

Today's 80/20 is Avoca Promise in the 14:50 at Folkestone.

This gelding finished a decent second to Super Directa over this course last March, making good progress two flights from home and keeping on well in the closing stages without troubling the easy winner. I think he brings a good level of form to the table and should go close at a fair price. At present he is trading at [4.4] on the exchange.

Who has Nick plumped for today?...

Hurdles debut for today's selection - will it be a winning start over obstacles?...

Folkestone Placepot: Monday November 28

Daily Placepots RSS / Simon Baker / 28 November 2011 / Leave a Comment

Folkestone is the scene of Monday's placepot.

Folkestone is the scene of Monday's placepot.

"...the one that really stands out is Hunt Ball, who looked a lot better than a 69-rated horse for a long way on his first start for the Rodford/Burke team at Cheltenham in April..."

Today's placepot comes from Folkestone...

12:30 - The only interesting ones in this are the top two, Shipboard Romance and Marju King, the former because Jim Best might improve her, the latter because he's well in on his Flat form and shaped better than the result at Hereford last time.

13:00 - The only way My Faithful Annie can win this is if the other two fall, and while that will probably result in a monster placepot dividend, it's unlikely enough that you'll be safe taking Temple Lord and Lifestyle, both of whom are potentially useful chasers.

13:30 - Ohio Gold has spurned enough chances to think he's not a bombproof odds-on short in the maiden hurdle, but if he jumps around and doesn't go amiss he's a good thing to place and is an obvious banker.

14:00 - This is interesting so far as 0-95 handicaps go, with the first four in the market all catching the eye for one reason or another. That said, the one that really stands out is Hunt Ball, who looked a lot better than a 69-rated horse for a long way on his first start for the Rodford/Burke team at Cheltenham in April, jumping well out in front before his relative lack of ability told against fairly useful rivals. He's getting plenty of weight from all today's rivals and is probably worth risking as a banker given that he could be miles ahead of his mark.

14:35 - Storm Survivor always looked the sort that would be brought along with handicaps in mind and the chances are today is the day for him with McCoy taking over for the first time since his debut. He's the obvious one to be with in a race that probably won't take much winning.

15:10 - Gemini Jim is interesting upped markedly in trip and switched to fences for his handicap debut after three quickfire runs in novice hurdles, but there are better options to be found elsewhere for placepot purposes, namely Reblis and Reymysterio, both of whom are fairly handicapped on their best form.

Follow The Money: Ffos Las and Folkestone fancies

Follow the Money RSS / Follow The Money / 28 November 2011 / Leave a Comment

Can Azione hurdle his way to victory?

Can Azione hurdle his way to victory?

"Receiving weight from all but one of her rivals today on ground that suits, Azione should be hard to beat."

Today's movers come from the meetings at Ffos Las and Folkestone.

We start at Ffos Las and our negative in their Beginners' Chase at 13:15 where Super Directa has drifted out from an early [1.74] to [1.96]. Lucy Wadham's seven-year-old made a reasonable start over the larger obstacles at Fontwell last time out, although he was a well-beaten second to the odds-on favourite. With his main market rival having the better hurdles form and the other two runners not totally out of it Super Directa looks opposable to short odds.

It's off to Folkestone for our next mover where there has been decent money for Hunt Ball whose price has contracted in to [3.95] from [11.0] in the 14:00 contest. This winning pointer has no form of note under rules and comes here after a break off a very low mark. The hope is that his new trainer, who has made a promising start to his career, has brought about an improvement. If the market support is anything to go by he has!

Back to Ffos Las for our final selection where Azione has been very solid at the head of the market in the 14:55 race, having been backed in to [2.18] from 2.64. This one is another to come from an in-form yard and was a winner last time out in a conditional jockeys race which allows her to race off the same mark today. Receiving weight from all but one of her rivals today on ground that suits, Azione should be hard to beat.

Nick Shiambouros' Patented 80/20 Bet: Folkestone, 16:50

80/20 RSS / Nick Shiambouros / 31 August 2011 / Leave a Comment

Nick goes in search of the promised land of 80/20 glory once more with the 16:50 at Folkestone in his radar. But who has he gone for?

Today's 80/20 is Protaras in the 16.50 at Folkestone.

This colt finished third to Midnight Oil in a handicap at HQ earlier this month. He met a fair amount of interference a furlong from home but finished strongly and was gaining on the winner close to home. I think he will appreciate the return to maiden company and should run well at a fair price. At present he is trading at [6.0] on the exchange.

Southwell is the venue for today's 80/20 wager but who has Nick entrusted with his hard-earned cash?...

Can Nick find some more 80/20 glory today in the 16:10 at Ripon?...

Will a drop in trip suit today's selection?...

A choice selection from our win and place tipster

Today's 80/20 is Choice Of Remark in the 14:30 at Folkestone.

This Choisir-colt put up an improved effort last time out when finishing second to The Penny Horse at Nottingham. He lost valuable ground a furlong from home when edging left but kept on in good style and was only just denied. I think he can take another step forward today and should go close at a fair price. At present he is trading at [5.4] on the exchange.

Nick believes today's 80/20 has a lot to offer......

Nick is going North even though the venue for his selection is the south West. Confused? Read on.......

Nick's focus is on Windsor today but who will we all be watching with baited breath?...
