"Precocious Kid has to be taken on at [3.9]."

Terry Norman selects a pair of promising Tuesday afternoon bets...

Southwell is a unique member of the all weather family. Course and distance winners make hay while sire stats can pinpoint horses to lay, sometimes at short prices.

Precocious Kid (14:40 Southwell) comes into that category. Favourite when turned over in a poor maiden at Kempton, Chris Wall's son of Whipper will start favourite based on his trainer's record of second-time out winners.

However, his sire has yet to have a horse placed from six runs on the surface and without having an all American pedigree he has to be taken on at [3.9]. We also have plenty on our side.

X-Rated, second over course and distance, is by Dubai Destination (25 per cent strike rate) and Areef, making his three-year-old debut, is by Kheleyf (12.5 per cent).
Not Til Monday (15:30, Folkestone) has improved substantially over hurdles since last running on the flat and has been found an ideal winning opportunity in this 1m 7f contest.

Kieren Fallon takes the ride for the first time and an added bonus is the natural front-runner is the only speed in the race. Also, contrary to some reports in the trade press, John Jenkins' five-year-old will love the fast ground.

Marcus Antonius, a fine second to Descaro on his return, is likely to shore up the market but may bounce from two runs in a week.

Recommended Bets
Lay Precocious Kid @ [3.9] (14:40 Southwell)
Back Not Til Monday @ [5.8] (15:00 Folkestone)
