Today's best bet comes at Chepstow

Today's best bet comes at Chepstow

"Requin (17:15) was formerly trained by the Alners but has taken off since moving to Victor Dartnall."

Best of luck to anyone who has a bet in the Imperial Cup at Sandown, but such competitive handicaps aren't for everyone and, hopefully, I have found three far more easier races to solve...

Two of today's best bets come north of the border up at Ayr. The first comes in the 16:00, a four-runner handicap chase over two and a half miles, where Locked Inthepocket looks the one to be on. A winner over today's course and distance on his penultimate outing, when barely off the bridle to score by 22 lengths, Locked Inthepocket would probably have followed up at Musselburgh four days later but for falling at the eleventh, still in front and going well at the time. Pauline Robson's gelding is 8 lb higher still this afternoon, but given how much he had in hand over a subsequent winner in that aforementioned race at Ayr two starts back he's still got something to play with, so long as he jumps better than last time out.

The second selection runs just half an hour later in the shape of Circus Clown, who looks a good bet to complete a hat-trick. A winner over two miles at Ayr in February on his debut for the Jim Goldie (formerly trained by Peter Monteith), he followed up under a penalty at Kelso five days later in a race that is working out well, with both the second and third having gone in since. Circus Clown is a further 9 lb higher today, but that's unlikely to be enough to stop him given he's still far from exposed for his new yard, especially beyond two miles.

The final bet comes at Chepstow and is another horse who has joined a new yard for this season. Requin (17:15) was formerly trained by the Alners but has taken off since moving to Victor Dartnall, winning a handicap hurdle at Exeter in December and showing much-improved form when runner-up there on his chasing debut last time (had excuses in between). Requin showed himself well ahead of his mark in going down by four and a half lengths to fellow improver As de Fer and looks more than capable of defying a 4 lb rise for that effort, his relative lack of experience not a massive worry given how well he jumped at Exeter.

Recommendations

Back Locked Inthepocket @ [2.8] Ayr 16:00
Back Circus Clown @ [2.96] Ayr 16:30
Back Requin @ [3.4] Chepstow 17:15
