Mark Johnston has had his string in fine form this winter, and with eight winners in the past two weeks, that run shows no signs of abating. Johnston sends two runners to Wolverhampton this afternoon and his best chance of a winner appears to lie with the once-raced Croftamie (15:55). Bred by Cheveley Park Stud and from the family of their very-smart performer Cesare, Croftamie was bought for just 3,500 guineas, money that looks to be well spent judged by the promise she showed on debut at Nottingham last November. Despite being sent off at long odds, Croftamie was prominent throughout and stuck to her task well to finish third behind Colima, who features in some ante-post lists for the Oaks. A good sort physically, Croftamie is likely to have developed plenty since her last run and, with fitness unlikely to be an issue hailing from her in-form stable, she can get the day off to a winning start.
The general consensus since the resignation of Fabio Capello as England manager has been that Harry Redknapp should be given the task of leading England to Euro 2012 and beyond. Therefore, a win today for Harrys Yer Man (16:25 Wolverhampton) would be highly appropriate, and Mark Brisbourne's charge looks to have good prospects of notching his second career-win. Now an eight-year-old, Harrys Yer Man failed to make the track until last May when he unseated in a novice hurdle at Bangor. After that early mishap, Harrys Yer Man quickly reverted to the Flat and got off the mark over course and distance earlier this month, landing a little touch in the process. Turned out quickly under a penalty at Southwell just five days later, Harrys Yer Man gave the impression the race came too soon, as after travelling smoothly he failed to pick up, eventually finishing fifth. That race was over a mile-and-a-half, but back over the course and distance of his previous win, Harrys Yer Man is fancied to get back on track.
Our final selection of the day comes from Carlisle where Diamond d'Amour has strong claims of defying top weight in the closing handicap hurdle (16:45). The son of Danehill Dancer showed promise for Howard Johnson last season, but has really taken off since being switched to the care of George Bewley, gaining his first career victory in a novice hurdle over course and distance in December. Raised to handicap company for his next run, Diamond d'Amour performed with credit, making most, before finding only Stormy Weather too strong on the run-in. That form has been franked since with the winner going in again at Musselburgh recently and Diamond d'Amour can successfully concede weight all round.
