Leopardstown's superb card is the highlight of the weekend, with no fewer than four Grade 1 contests. That said, the Hennessy Gold Cup at 15.45 is a substandard renewal. The first three from the Grade 1 Lexus Chase at Christmas are all absent and the market is headed by two of last season's better Irish-trained novices. The RSA Chase winner Bostons Angel is tried in cheekpieces after two underwhelming efforts this season, while likely favourite Quel Esprit, who was going well when falling three out in the RSA, has won two nothing events in style - this ought to be much harder. The two overpriced runners are China Rock and Roberto Goldback. China Rock was fourth in last year's Hennessy, weakening late on testing ground; Roberto Goldback was fourth in the Lexus and while he's not really a Grade 1 chaser, his best form gives him a decent chance here. Blinkers and the booking of Barry Geraghty are both positives so far as Roberto Goldback's chance is concerned. Back the pair.
The best bet on the card is in the opening Spring Juvenile Hurdle at 13.05. This is Hisaabaat, who has the same form chance as the favourites Ut de Sivola and Sportsmaster. He wears blinkers first time over hurdles but showed his best form in them on the Flat. He has an excellent chance of finishing in the first three, so appeals each way or win and place particularly.
