Jessie Harrington has a good chance with Why But Why in the 19.30 at Killarney tonight

"...the one who stands out on closer inspection is Why But Why, who looked a handicapper to follow when scoring at Fairyhouse last time, forced wide into the straight but storming home and well on top at the line that day"

A mixed card at Killarney provides the action tonight at the start of a busy week of Irish racing...

Irish Reel looks a good option in the handicap over an extended mile, due off at 18.30. Aragorn Icon is favourite after a ready success at Tipperary last time but looks vulnerable, well suited by how things unfolded on that occasion and now 9 lb higher in the weights. Irish Reel has gone the other way in the handicap over the last season or so and gave notice that she may be ready to take advantage when third at Sligo on her return, possibly just found out by the combination of an eighth-month absence and mile-and-a-quarter trip. At the likely odds, she looks by far the best option in a race that lacks depth behind the front two in the market.

The three-year-old handicap over eleven furlongs and hour later looks quite a trappy affair at first glance, with Vastonea unexposed after just two runs and Long Live The King seeming to have turned over a new leaf last time. However, the one who stands out on closer inspection is Why But Why, who looked a handicapper to follow when scoring at Fairyhouse last time, forced wide into the straight but storming home and well on top at the line that day. The form is already working out and he will relish this increased emphasis on stamina, so should be supported to defy a 12 lb rise in the weights.

The action switches to jumps after that and Bahrain Storm looks a strong favourite in the seventeen furlong minor event over fences at 20.00. As it stands Ponmeoath and Schelm bring better chasing form to the table, especially the former, but Bahrain Storm was in a different league to these over hurdles and has made a pleasing start over fences, winning a maiden at Tipperary with the minimum of fuss in May. This shorter trip isn't a probelm and he's a confident selection to make the required step up.
