Rory's off to Cheltenham to follow today's selections
"A price of [6.8] is more than tempting for Toby Jug."
Rory Delargy is on course for Cheltenham's April Meeting, and gives his best bets for Wednesday's action at the Cotswold venue.
I'm taking a bit of a chance on today's best bet, as Sarah Humphrey's Toby Jug - 14:45, Cheltenham - was well held in the Midlands National on his return from a 16 month absence, but the handicapper has been very quick to release his grip, and he gets his favoured quick surface for the first time since landing a hat-trick over staying trips in 2009, the last of which came at this marathon trip off an 8 lb higher mark.
He looked a most progressive handicapper at the time, as evidenced by the fact he was sent off at 8/1 for a strong Rehearsal Chase at Newcastle off a mark of 146 on his final outing that season. His trainer was on the mark at Plumpton on Monday, and I'm prepared to take a chance that most of his old ability remains. A price of [6.8] is more than tempting enough.
In the following contest at 15:20, King's Legacy can bounce back from a non-staying effort over 3m here on New Year's Day. His earlier third to Grands Crus and For Non Stop has been advertised in no uncertain terms since, and he remains on an identical mark. He can rediscover that form with Ruby Walsh (unbeaten on him) taking over, and in conditions which should pose no problem.
