Race of the Day

Kempton host an eight-race card on Sunday
"Kidlat would be dangerous if able to set a false pace and can be hard to pass under such circumstances, but Lovers Causeway should keep him honest and his superior stamina is likely to tell."
There may be only five runners, but this Kempton handicap looks one of the most interesting races of the day....
HATTON FLIGHT is lightly raced and not as good as he once was, but respectabe fourth of 7 behind Porgy in C&D handicap last time. Needs to raise his game to win from this mark, and yard yet to fire this season.
SPRING JIM won twice in 2009 and also did well over hurdles last year. Handled polytrack well at first time of asking when runner-up over 2m here last month, and this drop in trip should be no problem.
KIDLAT has been back to best of late, winning at Wolverhampton (8.6f) and over 1¼m here (made all) earlier in the month. Capable of winning again, but vulnerable at this trip unless he can gain a soft lead.
LOVERS CAUSEWAY has a steadily progressive profile on polytrack, winning twice apiece at Lingfield and Wolverhampton in 2010. Didn't stay 2m when tried at latter track last time, and much respected back over shorter.
KINDLELIGHT SUN Looked destined for better things when landing 1½m maiden at Lingfield on debut exactly a year ago, but has presumably had problems to have been absent since, and probably best left alone.
Timeform 1-2-3
1. Lovers Causeway
2. Spring Jim
3. Kidlat
Timeform View: Kidlat would be dangerous if able to set a false pace and can be hard to pass under such circumstances, but Lovers Causeway should keep him honest and his superior stamina is likely to tell, with Spring Jim appealing as the biggest danger in such a scenario.
