Jimmy Bullard has made an instant impact on loan at Ipswich
"The fact Forest have taken 10 points from the last 12 available in away games tells me they should account for Scunthorpe – particularly as the Iron have a truly dreadful home record with only one league win all season."
Nottm Forest can continue their fine form at lowly Scunthorpe, Watford to go on the goal trail, and Ipswich look set to avoid defeat at Doncaster. Andrew French tells more.
Doncaster v Ipswich
I've been impressed by the way new Ipswich manager Paul Jewell has had an instant effect on the Tractor Boys - and I think they can continue their run of four games without defeat when they visit Doncaster. Jewell hasn't hugely changed Town's personnel, although the loan signing of Jimmy Bullard will certainly have added a good bit to their midfield. It's probably more a case of the players simply reacting well to a change of approach, voice and personality that has seen them pick up 10 points from the last 12 available, including a win over Doncaster at Portman Road less than a month ago.
Rovers are in a slump, having lost five of their last six including three of their last four at home. It's also very key to note that Ipswich have played away from home nine times to bottom-half teams this season - and lost just once.
Lay Doncaster at [2.62]
Watford v Preston
There was a period, either side of Christmas, where backing Over 2.5 Goals in Watford games was almost buying money. It paid out in eight consecutive league and cup games - but the net has bulged less recently, with Saturday's 3-1 defeat to Burnley ending a run of three games with two goals or less. The lack of goals has been largely down to Watford's failure to score - but generally this season they have found the net regularly (at 1.86 a game they have the highest average in the division). They had chances aplenty on Saturday: three times they were one-on-one with Burnley keeper Lee Grant and failed to score. So, the chances were there - and they should be again against struggling Preston, who have not managed a clean sheet on the road in any of their 14 away league games this season.
North End's games on the road have produced an average of more than three goals each, as have Watford's home fixtures. Throw in the fact that the Vicarage Road pitch is extremely unpredictable in its current condition, and that both defences feature in the top six when it comes to goals conceded, then we can definitely expect goals in this encounter.
Back Over 2.5 Goals at [1.84]
Scunthorpe v Nottm Forest
I would love to be among those who backed Forest at chunky prices to win the league before they embarked on their current superb run. The draw at leaders QPR made it 10 league games without defeat and keeps them seven points behind the Hoops with two games in hand. The fact Forest have taken 10 points from the last 12 available in away games tells me they should account for Scunthorpe - particularly as the Iron have a truly dreadful home record with only one league win all season, losing seven of their last eight league games at Glanford Park. Therefore, even at [1.82], I think Forest look a bit on the large side. After all Scunthorpe have lost five of the six games they have played at home to top-half sides (and they drew the other), and they concede an average of two goals in home games. That will be perfect for Forest, who have only failed to score once on their travels this season. With those stats in mind, 2-0 to Forest at [9.4] in the Correct Score market is also tempting.
Back Nottm Forest at [1.82]
