Will our backs win and our lays lose?

For today's Follow The Money market movers we go to the cards at Catterick and Plumpton

We start today's tips with the 14:40 class 4 3m1f Handicap hurdle at Catterick, where solid support has been registered for The Red Laird moving from [10.5] in to [6.8]. A good win at Warwick on New Year's Eve, coupled with his record going left-handed (two wins and two places from seven runs as opposed to 0-0-4 right-handed) makes for interesting reading, along with his record of 1 win and 1 place from 2 runs at this distance. Any further cut in the ground would only be a bonus and punters are clearly confident that The Red Laird can land the spoils today.

We move on to the 15:20 2m Handicap Hurdle at Plumpton where Oscar Close has been all the rage in early trading moving in from [6.0] in to [4.2]. He has shown glimpses of good form at around this distance, and the ground conditions are unlikely to be a problem. It could be also be significant that early morning favourite Beau Lake has been drifting dramatically with punters happy to side with something else today.

Our lay of the day is to be found back at Catterick in the 16:10 Beginners Chase where Silent Cliche is apparently friendless having drifted out to [3.15] from [2.26]. Silent Cliche was a faller in his last race when odds-on (though excuses can be found in that he was hampered at the fence) but his jumping before that fall, however, had looked slightly suspect. Backers obviously feel that he isn't one they want to put their trust in at skinny prices today. It may also be worth noting that good support has been registered for Wolf Moon and Hommage A Bach at bigger prices.

Will Divy get back to good form over hurdles?

"Squadron has run consistently well in three attempts over fences, especially last time out at Taunton behind two progressive types. This race looks an easier contest in which to get his head in front and the market suggests it could well be his day."

Today's movers come from the meetings at Taunton and Huntingdon.

We start at Huntingdon in the 13:40 Handicap Hurdle over three miles and two furlongs where the George Baker-trained Divy is now trading at [7.2] from [19.50]. He was a smart bumper horse when winning twice and started off well over hurdles but has since lost his way which is why this market support is of interest. He has been given a break since his last run and is also down 5lbs from then, and runs against lower class opposition today. These factors seem to have alerted some people that a good run is expected.

We stay at Huntingdon and Squadron has been receiving some good support into [5.2] from [7.4] in the 14:40 Handicap Chase over 3m. Alan King's charge is having his fourth race over the larger obstacles having proved himself a very useful hurdler in his day. He has run consistently well in three attempts over fences, especially last time out at Taunton behind two progressive types. This race looks an easier contest in which to get his head in front and the market suggests it could well be his day.

Finally we go to Taunton for the day's negative. Lord Singer has been on the drift this morning from [3.50] out to ]4.70] in the 16:30 Handicap Chase over 2m. Gary Moore's horse won last time out but has been raised seven pounds for it, while in his two runs previous to that win he failed to finish and also fell. The penalty along with his inconsistency and tendency to jump left seems to have given punters plenty of reason to look elsewhere in this race for the winner.
