In the face of the US's apparent war against online poker a world away some are moving to make the past time legal. In Australia an online sports betting operator is pushing for legalizing poker. Andrew Twaits says the current legislation is not working in regards to online poker. Twaits is the owner of Betfair, which also owns a poker room. He would like to see poker players in Australia be able to visit is poker site without any fear of repercussion from the government.
Despite the recent action taken by the federal government one US state may soon legalize online poker. The Iowa Senate recently approved a bill that would study the potential benefits to legalizing online poker. Poker players would then have an intrastate poker room for play, something that the state could regulate and tax, providing much needed revenue. The study would be conducted by the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission, which would have to report on its findings to the State Legislature by December 1st of this year.
A vote may soon make online poker legal in the US state of Iowa. A vote by the State Government Committee in Iowa was 9-6 in favor of legalizing online poker. This happened despite the fact that the state Governor Chris Christie recently vetoed a bill that would have legalized the poker game for online poker players. This recent vote means online poker legalization will have another chance at becoming a reality in Iowa.
