Society Rock wins the Golden Jubilee

The James Fanshawe-trained Society Rock, who finished runner-up in the Golden Jubilee in 2010, went one better in the Group 1 highlight on the final day of Royal Ascot 2011...

Society Rock, who returned a Betfair SP of [34.1], raced in the larger far-side group and came home strongly after touching [450.0] in-play to beat Monsieur Chevalier and Australian raider Star Witness (went as low as [1.11] in-running), both of whom had taken part in the King's Stand on Tuesday.

Society Rock, who was giving his jockey Pat Cosgrave a first Royal Ascot winner, could now go for the July Cup at Newmarket next month. Godolphin's Delegator, who was pulled out of the Golden Jubilee because of the rain-softened ground, currently heads the July Cup market.

Earlier on the card, Await The Dawn completed a quick-fire double for the O'Brien/Moore combo, who had already landed the Chesham with Maybe (BSP [4.11]). Await The Dawn was sent off a strong favourite [1.76] for the Hardwicke and always looked in control once Ryan Moore asked him to make his move in the straight, looming up to front-runner Harris Tweed before storming right away.

Await the Dawn could now go for the Betfair King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes back over the same course and distance on July 23 for which his stable-companion St Nicholas Abbey is the current market leader.
