FTM have two at Ascot this afternoon
"Slumber has shortened to [13.5] from [24.0]."
Welcome to Follow The Money, today's selection can be found at Ascot and Ripon.
At Ripon, in the 14:10 6f Maiden, there's been good early support for Kenny Powers, backed in to [3.3] from [6.1]. Trained by the in form Tom Dascombe, this colt out of the useful Vital Equine make his debut today. He has plenty of sprint relations in his pedigree including a Group 1 winner and his sire was second in the 2000 Guineas. He faces a few rivals who have already run but seem a pretty average lot and the money down suggests a good run is on the cards for his trainer whose two-year-olds are enjoying a better campaign than last season.
In Royal Ascot's Ribblesdale Stakes at 15:05, Banimpire has eased in the betting out to [4.4] from [3.4]. This will be her seventh start of the season but she seems to be coping with it well, having won four times, including last weekend when staying on well to win a Group 3 at Cork. This race looks pretty open with a few of her rivals open to improvement. Another factor that may go against the selection is the potential of softened ground as all her victories have come on good to firm going and, although she has won over this 1m4f trip, she may struggle to get it on softer going and may find one or two of her rivals improve past her today.
Our final selection comes in the Group 3 at 17:00 in the shape of Slumber. She's shortened to [13.5] from [24.0]. There are plenty of chances in this race with many coming here in good form including a 'could be anything' from the O'Brien yard. Slumber has only had three starts and first time up this season she hacked over today's trip at Epsom which prompted calls to run in the Derby but she never followed that up and could only come third in the Chester Vase. She never looked at home on that track though and stayed on well once in the straight to only finish three lengths behind the front two, of which Treasure Beach who won went on to finish second in the Derby. Whether that form is reliable we will have to wait and see but the money down suggests an improved effort could be on the way.
