Both of Paul's Tuesday bets run at Kempton
"Winniepeg and Salesiano are both unexposed and respected, but Avalon Bay may well have plenty more in the locker and should be clear favourite."
Paul Smith aims to brighten up a grim Tuesday afternoon with a couple of promising bets...
They say a leopard can't change its spots but Avalon Bay looked a totally different big cat on his seasonal reappearance and he rates the best bet of the day in Kempton's finale at 17:20.
His juvenile campaign was blighted by a refusal to settle but he still showed that there was plenty of ability there, twice a runner-up over this course and distance.
Upped to 7f on his return, he proved much more tractable, tanking along in front and coming home unchallenged. A 5lb rise doesn't look excessive given that performance was backed up by a solid timefigure and he will be equally at home back over this shorter trip.
Winniepeg and Salesiano are both unexposed and respected, but Avalon Bay may well have plenty more in the locker and should be clear favourite.
There are plenty of possibles in the Pontefract handicaps, with Nolecce and Descaro both still looking ahead of their mark, but for the next best, I am going to stay at Kempton.
The market for the 2m handicap at 16.50 is headed by two horses who won weak races last time (Kadouchski is at least unexposed over the trip) and a serial non-winner in Mohanad.
It could be worth chancing Jamie Osborne's Corr Point at a double-figure price, with his progressive form last summer giving him a huge chance off a mark of 70.
He ended the season below form but he can go well fresh, is effective under the conditions and his trainer has revealed on Twitter that he has had a wind operation since we last saw him.
It may be that he never reproduces last season's best but at the prices, he has to be of some interest in this field.
