"Fol Hollow starts the season 3lb lower than when winning at Thirsk last season and looks worth chancing at double figures."

David Johnson goes for a pair of big-priced fancies at the Yorkshire track

The Flat season is certainly getting into swing now with three cards this afternoon in addition to an evening fixture at Kempton. Nottingham looks to have the best of the action in terms of quality but punting there looks is complicated by the mass withdrawals on account of a switch to the unwatered track after false patches of ground were discovered. Therefore we'll go to Beverley for today's bets.

Mark Johnston sets us a couple of puzzlers by saddling two in the 3-y-o handicaps at 16:10 and 17:10 and it would be no surprised if the seemingly lesser fancied of his pair comes out on top in both races, but we'll concentrate on the 15:10 and 16:40 for today's bets. Fol Hollow makes most appeal in the 5f sprint. Though not ideally drawn, he has plenty of early speed and has a very good record reappearing. He won over this course and distance on his reappearance in 2009. He starts the season 3lb lower than when winning at Thirsk last season and looks worth chancing at double figures.

The second selection is Eduardo in the 16:40. I spent most of the winter waiting for this horse to run with him being proven at Southwell but connections have opted to save him for a turf campaign. He shaped much better than the result suggests on his final start in a nursery at Yarmouth last time, going strongly up with the pace but finding his stamina stretched. The drop in trip and less testing ground will suit and he's slipped to a good mark.
