"My Gacho has won first time up on a number of occasions, and it’s well worth baring in mind that he ran a blinder on his only previous visit to Doncaster.."

Three selections for Sunday's meeting at Doncaster.

King of Jazz (14.10) sets a good standard in the maiden and should be up to getting off the mark. His two-length defeat at Newmarket when last seen in May 2010 is really strong form, the winner and stablemate Libranno going on to success in the July Cup and Richmond Stakes, while the second, fourth, and fifth all won next time. A ten-month absence shouldn't be seen as too much of a negative given his in-form trainer, who sent out smart prospect Retainer to win after a year off at Leicester on Thursday, and this step up to seven furlongs looks ideal.

My Gacho (14.45) can make a winning start for Dandy Nicholls in the first division of the competitive seven-furlong handicaps at Doncaster. The nine-year-old held his form well in 2010 without getting his head in front and starts life with a new yard on a workable mark. My Gacho has won first time up on a number of occasions, and it's well worth baring in mind that he ran a blinder on his only previous visit to Doncaster in a sales race way back in 2004.

November Handicap winner Times Up (16.25) re-appears in the Doncaster Shield and can make a successful reappearance for John Dunlop. He did nothing but improve as 2010 went on and readily put a good field to bed in the final big handicap of the season over course and distance. Prompter, sixth on that occasion, benefits from a turnaround in the weights now, but is a weak finisher, and wouldn't want the ground too firm. Times Up on the other hand will be staying on when plenty of his rivals have cried enough, and it's not out of the question he could prove even better than a 113-rated performer.

The Lincoln is finally upon us, which means the Flat season is eventually underway properly, but rather than pick that particular handicap apart we have come up with two other selections at Doncaster, as well as one from Kempton....

Two bets from Musselburgh and one later on at Wolverhampton......
